Days For Girls

1.  It’s our 10th Anniversary and we’re celebrating!  October 7th is the date and we are hoping that many are able to join us.  Please see the following poster and the link to register.

If you have personal contact with someone who used to be a member, but doesn’t attend now, please reach out and make sure that they are included.

2.  Marillac Place, a women’s shelter in Waterloo, has really taken to our kits for both in-house and after care clients and they have ordered more deliveries.  We are trying to work out a ‘deal’ with Diva to help make these kits more affordable for us to put together for them.

3.  Janice has taken components for 60 kits to be delivered up north for women in need in that area.  Wonderful to have this outreach opportunity!

4.  Fall is traditionally a good time for presentations to be made to local groups.  If you have any connections with such groups, we would be happy to share about our group.

5.  A special thanks you to Jan who has gone carefully gone over notes we received from our last inspection of our kits.  We have little things to improve upon and she has formulated a workshop for each group to help us achieve a Gold standard in all areas.  Thank you Jan for your time and commitment!

6.  Are you missing a t-shirt that you lent for use at the golf tournament?  We have one left and can’t remember who it belongs to.

7.  Jan, Chris and Deb are going to the conference in Toronto later this month.  They will be looking forward to sharing and learning from other groups.

8.  A new total for our group!  We have made and delivered 14 867 kits in the last ten years!  What an amazing number and mind boggling to think of all the women we have helped along the way.

Next Sew Day….September 23.  Dates in October…The anniversary celebration on October 7.  Regular sew days on October 28th.

Here is the link for you to sign up for the anniversary celebration.  If you have difficulty using this link, please email Jill Evans directly at jillevans@sympatico.ca. We hope to have as many members, both past and present, as possible.

Your Days for Girls Team

Days for Girls is an international non-profit organization dedicated to achieving menstrual equity everywhere.  Period.

Days for Girls is turning periods into pathways. We increase access to menstrual care and education by developing global partnerships, cultivating Social Entrepreneurs, mobilizing volunteers and innovating sustainable solutions that shatter stigma and limitations for women and girls.

One of those groups of about 35 ladies meets twice monthly right here at Mannheim Mennonite Church.

Volunteers in communities all over the world gather to produce sustainable menstrual kits.

This local group was formed in 2014 and has since produced over 10,000 kits which have been sent all over the world (mainly to countries in Africa, but also to Haiti, Guatemala and locally to Ontario communities in need).

You can read more about this amazing organization by going to the Days for Girls website.
